changing your habits

we are creatures of habit…

Habits are rituals and behaviors that we perform automatically, the same activities day after day without thinking about them. By having habits we can perform daily activities unconsciously in order to free up brain space to carry out other more complex tasks and decision making.

scientific Research

Scientists have learned that a certain part of the brain called the basal ganglia plays a crucial role in creating new habits and maintaining existing ones. Researchers from Duke University have shown that over 40% of what we do is determined not by decisions but by habits. This means that we can make a significant difference to our lives just by changing our habits. It is hard work breaking old habits - as the saying goes “old habits die hard” and therefore it is easier to introduce good habits and in time these will crowd out the bad ones.
